AI world builder Third Dimension has raised $6.9 million in a seed round to develop a one-stop generative AI art tool for games, films, and the military.
The company told GamesBeat that the cash injection will bolster its team size and fuel the training of its generative AI models which convert 2D images and video into 3D spaces, empowering artists and engineers to build in-engine worlds more efficiently.
The round was led by Californian venture capitalist Felicis, known for investing in the health industry as well as artificial intelligence. Abstract Ventures, MVP, Soma Capital and the Salt Fund also contributed.
Building Rome in a day
Third Dimension was formed by CEO Tolga Kart, CTO Piotr Sokolski and co-founder Özgun Pelvan with the hopes of providing technology that can craft 3D areas both realistic and fantastical tailored to a user’s needs.
Sokolski and Pelvan’s backgrounds are in self-driving cars and machine learning respectively, meanwhile Kart brings experience from EA and Activision, with seven years as a senior director on Call of Duty to the team. He also worked at Tesla.
“Build Rome In a Day,” Kart posted on LinkedIn.
“Today, Third Dimension AI is coming out of stealth and announcing a $7M Seed round of funding. We’re changing the way 3D worlds are created for content teams and individual creators alike, transforming industries from autonomy to entertainment to geospatial and more.
“Our platform will empower engineers and artists to generate incredibly detailed, high-fidelity worlds – both real and imagined – with a single click. Imagine recreating entire cities or dreaming up fantastical universes in hours, not months.
“3D content generation is at an inflexion point, and it’s about to have its Software 2.0 moment. Over the last five years, text and code generation have been transformed with ChatGPT. Image generation quickly followed suit. Video generation is seeing incredible momentum and will soon be a solved problem. 3D generation is the next frontier for generative content.”
