The original Twister hit theaters in 1996, earning legions of fans for its pulse-pounding look at Tornado Alley. Now, nearly three decades later, the film has received a standalone sequel, Twisters, that revives the old formula for a new audience of viewers. It just hit theaters on July 19, and now the Twisters Blu-ray is available for preorder at Walmart and Amazon.
$35
Preordering at Walmart is the most enticing option right now, as it comes with an exclusive steelbook that’s bound to be popular. Consider reserving a copy now before they sell out. If they do go out of stock, the 4K UHD version is listed at Amazon–though it lacks the cool steelbook. You’ll also find the standard Blu-ray version at Amazon for just $33 (down from $40).
Snagging the 4K version is arguably the best option, as it also gets you a Blu-ray version of the film and a digital copy. Purchase the standard Blu-ray version and you’ll also get a digital copy.
Note that the Amazon version is currently more expensive than the Walmart version, though this will likely change in the coming weeks. If you preorder ahead of the price drop, Amazon’s prepurchase guarantee ensures you’ll only pay the lowest price ahead of its release date. That means if you preorder today, you won’t have to worry about missing out on a price drop tomorrow.
A release date for the Twisters Blu-ray has not yet been announced. But since the film just arrived in theaters, we don’t expect it to be in home theaters for quite some time.
Our Twisters review found it to be a “fun and well-made movie” worth the admission price.
“Twisters is a breezy movie, with a cast that’s very easy to enjoy doing anything,” wrote critic Phil Owen. “Edgar-Jones is charismatic and pleasant, Powell has movie-star charm, and Ramos, as always, has this baseline level of emotion under his delivery that makes his performance feel incredibly human–dude is by far the best product to come out of Hamilton. Without a core trio this strong, it’s very possible Twisters would have fallen flat.”
