Anyone subscribing to Twitter Blue is set to gain early access to some new and experimental features starting today.
Twitter Blue launched in June for users in Canada and Australia, offering the ability to undo tweets, bookmark folders, and access a reader mode in return for $4 a month. That’s not a lot in return for your money, but this week the features are expanding with the introduction of Labs.
As Twitter explains, “Labs is our way of sharing some of the newest features we’re building so you’ll have it before everyone else. We’ll update you as we build, so check back often!” In other words, Blue subscribers are the test subjects. The first early access functionality they can enjoy are pinned conversations on iOS, and the ability to upload longer videos from the desktop (not mobile apps).
The pinned conversations features allows favorite DMs to be kept at the top by swiping right on a DM to pin it. As for longer videos, Twitter decided 10 minutes is the new limit for now, but feedback and the extra strain on its servers may see that change before it rolls out beyond Blue users.
We still don’t know when Twitter Blue will be offered in more markets, with Twitter stating again this week that more countries are simply “coming soon.” However, it does look as though Labs means a Blue subscription will increasingly become more tempting/desirable if new features are introduced regularly.
