Unity Technologies will launch Unity 6 globally on Thursday, October 17th 2024, with a preview currently available to users.
Unity 6 will provide developers with customisable graphics rendering, simplified multiplayer game development and tools for creating games for web browsers.
The first update, Unity 6.1, will be released in April 2025. It will include features like support for foldable and large screens, Deferred+ rendering, and new build profiles.
Scenes from a new demo, Time Ghost, will launch next month with Unity 6, along with the Fantasy Kingdom demo, which has been optimised for mobile devices.
Google Cloud will also demonstrate how generative AI can evolve live service games into dynamic, adaptive experiences.
The “best” one yet
“Developers have been telling us for a long time that they want more stability and more performance, which we are addressing with Unity 6,” said Unity president and CEO Matt Bromberg.
“We’re bringing them the best version of Unity yet, backed by deeper, long-term support and dedicated product and engineering resources post launch.”
“We couldn’t be more excited to celebrate Unity developers at Unite today and tomorrow and showcase, in particular, how some of them have been using Unity 6 to create amazing games,” Bromberg concludes.
Unity also recently cancelled its controversial Runtime Fee, which was announced last year and faced significant industry backlash. The fee would have charged developers per install, affecting both existing and future licence holders.
