Smartwatches are becoming more useful with every new model launch, but did you ever consider them as a gaming platform? Neither did I, but that didn’t stop someone attempting (and succeeding) to run Assassin’s Creed Unity on a smartwatch.
As Android Central reports, Mark B from MB Reviews recently got his hands on a Kospet Optimus 2 smartwatch, which runs Android 10.7 rather than the more typical Wear OS. The Optimus 2 uses a 1.6-inch IPS touch screen with a resolution of 400-by-400 pixels (345ppi). That display is powered by an octa-core Mediatek Helio P25 MTK6762 running at 2GHz and complimented by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of flash storage.
This isn’t a hardware platform for running games, but the fact it uses Android means it can (technically) run any Android game. Mark also realized it allowed Google Stadia to run. He linked a GameSir G4 Pro controller via Bluetooth for input, and sure enough, Assassin’s Creed Unity appeared on the tiny screen and was playable, as the video above proves.
It’s a fun experiment, and one helped by the ability of the Optimus 2 to connect to both 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi networks. Even so, it’s definitely not a great way to play Stadia games for an extended period of time, and the 1,260mAh battery used in this smartwatch isn’t going to allow for long play sessions anyway.
