Diablo II: Resurrected is set for release on Sept. 23, but Blizzard is offering us two chances to play the game early this month.
On Aug. 13, the Early Access test will go live for Windows, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One owners. The only prerequisite to taking part is that you’ve pre-purchased the game or the Diablo Prime Evil Collection. Preloading of the game will be possible from Aug. 11, and then play commences from 10am PDT the following day. The Early Access test ends on Aug. 17 at 10am PDT.
On Aug. 20, the Open Beta becomes available for Windows, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One owners. Preloading on consoles is possible from Aug. 17 via each platform’s digital store, while Windows gamers can preload from Aug. 18 via their Battle.net client. Play commences on Aug. 20 at 10am PDT and ends on Aug. 23 at 10am PDT.
Blizzard is keen to point out the game is still in heavy development and these tests don’t represent final gameplay and will likely contain a number of bugs. That’s unlikely to stop many Diablo fans flocking to Blizzard’s servers to try out the remaster of this classic.
Diablo II: Resurrected is a joint development between Blizzard and Vicarious Visions who have been working on the remaster since 2019. Early on there was doubt regarding whether the remaster would be possible due to the original assets being lost through data corruption. Thankfully, the loss was nowhere near as bad as first thought, the remaster project was set in motion, and later this week we finally get a first taste of the updated game.
