Century Games’ Whiteout Survival has amassed more than $1 billion in gross revenue after a year and five months since it launched.
According to Sensor Tower, Whiteout Survival has become the third fastest game released in 2023 to reach this milestone, joining Monopoly Go! and Honkai: Star Rail in achieving this feat.
Despite its modest launch generating just over $1 million in revenue in February 2023, the game has shown consistent growth by passing $100 million in revenue by June 2024, a 14% increase from the previous month.
Replicating previous success
Whiteout Survival targets a new audience with an innovative approach to 4X gameplay. It’s this aspect in addition to its user acquisition strategies inspired by casual and hypercasual games – which have historically driven higher downloads than midcore games – that seem to have fuelled its success.
The US leads as the game’s top revenue region (35%), followed by South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan. Saudi Arabia ranks as the game’s second-highest country by downloads.
Whiteout Survival’s success mirrors the rise of emerging genres such as coin looters and 4X strategy games. Meanwhile, Scopely’s Monopoly Go! is on track to be the top mobile game by revenue for 2024 after hitting $3 billion revenue in July 2024.
