Need some extra light for reading, puzzles, or selfies? For just $29.99, the Wyze Floor Lamp features a 4,000K cool white temperature with 15 groups of individual condenser lenses that form a narrow, 23-degree light beam for even illumination. It connects to your phone via Bluetooth, letting you turn it on and off, adjust the brightness, and create lighting schedules. Sporting a minimal all-black design, it stands around 6-feet tall and features a flexible neck, so you can adjust it to shine anywhere you need focused light. An included remote offers 11 brightness levels and the lamp uses AI to learn your lighting preferences for when you turn it on and off, then automatically applies your desired settings. It doesn’t have Wi-Fi, so you can’t control the light from your phone when you’re outside of Bluetooth range, and it doesn’t support IFTTT or voice control. Despite these limitations, the Wyze Floor Lamp is an excellent all-in-one task light that’s worth its affordable price.
Wyze Floor Lamp Pricing and Design
At just $29.99 at the time of this writing, the Wyze Floor Lamp is a steal, but that pre-order price won’t last. Wyze says the price will go up an unspecified amount once it becomes generally available in late May. We’re evaluating the lamp based on the current pre-order price here; once Wyze announces general pricing, we will reassess its value and adjust this review accordingly.
The Floor Lamp features a sleek black frame, and it only comes in that color. The modern, all-black look isn’t my personal aesthetic, but it’s a simple design that almost lets the lamp fade into the background.
Its metal base is fairly large at 11.82 inches in diameter, but the pole is super slim at just half an inch, so it can easily fit in a tight spot. The lamp stands up to 73.76 inches tall with its neck fully extended. The top 24 inches of the neck is pliable, so you can position it to shine wherever you need it. The lamp weighs just 7.06 pounds, allowing it to be moved around fairly easily.
Wyze includes a small circular Bluetooth remote, which lets you dim/brighten the light and turn it on and off from up to 50 feet away. The remote is magnetic, so you can stick it onto something metal where you know you won’t lose it.
The bulb has a PAR30 shape, uses a standard E26 base, and features 15 groups of individual condenser lenses that form a narrow 23-degree beam for concentrated task lighting. Wyze says that “the focused light will shine only for your dedicated work, without disturbing others around you.” Thus, this isn’t a good lamp for ambient, whole-room illumination.
The bulb has a 4,000K cool white temperature and doesn’t change colors. It puts out up to 800 lumens, which is roughly equivalent to a 60-watt incandescent bulb. The included remote offers 11 brightness levels. The Wyze app has more granular adjustments, letting you dim it from 1 to 100%.
The bulb has a Color Rating Index (CRI) of 90+. It uses Samsung LED chips that can reach a center brightness of up to 1,400 Lux when the bulb is positioned 55 inches from the object or surface being illuminated.
Wyze says the bulb’s daylight tone provides “excellent lighting for your Instagram videos and photoshoots,” but it doesn’t replace a professional lighting kit. The company hasn’t evaluated its effectiveness as a horticulture luminaire (aka a “grow light”), but says it “may emit light at wavelengths that are good for growing plants.”
The lamp is meant to be used with the included bulb, which has a life expectancy of 25,000 hours. If you install a different E26 base bulb in the lamp, you’ll lose the ability to control it with the remote and turn it off with the cord switch.
The remote doesn’t work with any other devices, including the Wyze Bulb and Bulb Color. And unlike the Wyze Bulbs, the Floor Lamp doesn’t support wake-up and bedtime sleep routines that gradually illuminate or dim to help you rise in the morning or wind down before bed. If you use other Wyze smart light bulbs, you won’t be able to group them with the Floor Lamp in the app. The Floor Lamp also lacks integration with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and IFTTT, so you can’t control it with your voice or have it work with third-party devices.
Easy to Set Up and Use
Setting up the Floor Lamp is simple and doesn’t require any tools. You just have to screw the pole together, attach it to the base, screw the included bulb into the socket, and plug the lamp into a wall outlet. From there, you simply turn the lamp on using the cord switch.
Next, install the included AAA battery in the remote, then press the small setup button on the side so it pops out, and a small yellow light on the remote will begin to blink. When the bulb starts to flash, press the button on the remote to pair them. Finally, press the setup button again so it’s flush with the side of the remote, and you should be good to go.
To turn the floor lamp on and off, just press the button on the remote. To dim or brighten the bulb, turn the button.
I set the lamp up over my desk, and it works well as a task light for my laptop, but its 23-degree beam doesn’t extend to my second monitor. Thanks to the flexible gooseneck, I can adjust the light to illuminate my face during Zoom calls.
The lamp also connects to the Wyze app (available for Android and iOS), so you can control it from your phone and create lighting schedules. Unlike the Wyze Bulbs, it’s doesn’t have an embedded 2.4GHz Wi-Fi radio, so you can’t remotely monitor and control it when outside of Bluetooth range.
After downloading the app and creating an account, press the plus sign in the upper left corner, tap Add Device, and select Wyze Floor Lamp. Next, approve the Bluetooth permission request, and the app will begin searching for your floor lamp. If the app doesn’t find it right away, it might instruct you to flip the lamp’s cord switch five times to enable pairing mode. After finding and pairing the lamp, the app will ask you to name it. During the setup process, the app asks if you want to share the lamp with a family member; if so, just enter their email address to send them a sharing request.
In the center of the app is a big power button that lets you remotely turn the lamp on or off and adjust its brightness. Below that is a Delay Timer button, which lets you set the lamp to turn off after a certain amount of time (15 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 10 minutes, or 30 minutes).
The app’s scheduling feature lets you program the lamp to automatically turn on, off, or adjust the brightness level at your preferred times. To access it, tap the gear icon > Schedules > Add Schedule. Since I have the lamp in my office, I scheduled it to automatically turn on every weekday at 9 a.m. and turn off at night. In testing, the scheduling feature has worked without issue; at the specified time, the lamp reliably applies my selected settings. That said, your phone needs to be within Bluetooth range for schedules to work, which is a signifiant limitation.
The app also lets you enable/disable the Smart Dimming feature, which lets the lamp learn your preferences and automatically adjust the brightness level. To enable it, tap the gear icon, select Smart Dimming, then toggle it on. Then, after a few uses with either the app or the remote, the lamp will keep track of your brightness preferences for any given time of day, and adjust the bulb automatically.
“Other lamps might turn to the brightness level of your last use, but Wyze Floor Lamp will adjust the brightness by itself,” a Wyze spokesperson explained. “So, your 5 p.m. brightness level is likely different from your 10 p.m. brightness based on how your use habits. Each time you turn it on, it learns your brightness level preference for that specific time of day.”
Focused Illumination
Considering that smart tasks lights can run upward of $600, the Wyze Floor Lamp is aggressively priced at just $29.99 (at least for now). It features a dimmable, 4,000K cool white bulb and a long flexible neck, so you can position it to shine its 23-degree beam wherever you need extra light. Its included remote lets you cycle through 11 brightness levels topping out at 800 lumens, and its companion app lets you create lighting schedules. The lamp also learns your brightness preferences throughout the day, and automatically adjusts to match your desired settings. It lacks Wi-Fi connectivity, so you can’t control it from your phone outside of Bluetooth range, and it lacks the voice control and third-party support you get with many smart bulbs. But if you’re in need of an adjustable task light to illuminate what you’re working on and help reduce eye strain, the Wyze Lamp is a terrific, cost-effective option.
