ZeptoLab CEO Max Petrov is stepping down and departing from the company after almost 12 years.
Through a slew of chief job roles, Petrov developed ZeptoLab’s data and analytics department from scratch, was responsible for the launch of Cut the Rope 2, and formed partnerships with Netflix, Apple and other tech companies.
His role as CEO has come to an end after 2.5 years with a tease of a “new personal chapter” coming soon.
“The time has come, and after almost 12 incredible years, I am now leaving ZeptoLab and stepping down as CEO,” he shared on LinkedIn.
12 years in the making
Petrov has been with ZeptoLab through well over a dozen game launches – from King of Thieves to Robotics! to Cut the Ropes spinoffs.
His roles over the years have included head of analytics, chief product and data officer, chief operations officer, and finally CEO. He took up his final role at ZeptoLab in January 2022 focusing on strategy, business and culture.
“I am extremely proud of the company we’ve built over these years – successfully balancing innovation with a results-driven culture, which has enabled ZeptoLab to release a number of big hits and achieve sustainable growth in the competitive and turbulent mobile gaming market,” Petrov said.
“However, what I am most proud of is the ZeptoLab team. Working with such dedicated, loyal, and hardworking professionals has been a true privilege for me. I am confident that ZeptoLab has a fantastic future ahead, and I look forward to seeing the new hits on the horizon (I can tell you, there are some very cool games just around the corner!).”
ZeptoLab released the original Cut the Rope in 2010 and has spawned many spinoffs and sequels since, including Apple Arcade exclusive Cut the Rope 3.
While still the CEO, Petrov spoke with us at PocketGamer.biz about the “pressure” of creating a sequel to the hit series, but he was “determined to deliver an even more awesome experience than what fans are hoping for”.
