The worlds of mobile games and movie stars are increasingly crossing over with more and more star power coming out to promote the world’s most lucrative form of entertainment.
From Pedro Pascal pushing Merge Mansion to Jennifer Lopez hawking Coin Master, even Chris Hemsworth entered the fray this summer thanks to the lure of Supercell. Mobile advertising is certainly switching up, with that Squad Busters ad also pulling in Christina Ricci, Ken Jeong, Will Arnett and Aulii Cravalho and spawning its own gag reel of bloopers.
“A match-3 game… is coming…”
Joining that ever-expanding list, the latest big-name talent to make his mark on the mobile games scene is Kit Harrington – better known by many as Game of Thrones’ Jon Snow (whether he likes it or not).
That’s the running gag of Game of Thrones: Legends’ launch trailer, where Harrington doesn’t reprise his heroic role but instead plays a version of himself tired of all the show’s quotes and quips.
“Don’t say it…” he asked of one fellow Game of Thrones: Legends player in the trailer.
But she couldn’t resist: “You know nothing, Jon Snow!”
Built for the fans
Of course, Zynga’s new game is the real star of the show with Harrington on duty to explain the basic rules of play and have a thoroughly good time doing so. Through his account “DontcallmeJon” he shows off the RPG puzzle title’s various Champions, gear, weapons, match-3 gameplay, and a special ability in Dracarys…
“The creativity and care taken to create Game of Thrones: Legends is obvious and it feels completely natural to jump back into Westeros for this game,” Harington said in a statement.
“This is a true love letter to the fans, of whom the franchise would be nothing without, and I’m honoured to pay tribute to them in this new campaign.”
Zynga EVP of mobile games Yaron Leyvand added: “Our teams have developed and built Game of Thrones: Legends to create both an engaging gaming experience and a deep Game of Thrones experience for the fans and it is thrilling to see our work launched alongside this fantastic marketing campaign.
“We are proud to bring this title to the world, along with Kit Harington, and we cannot wait to see the stories our players tell as they travel through Westeros.”
