This past December at The Game Awards we got a first peek at Monster Hunter Wilds, and while the trailer looked cool, it’s hard to know exactly how excited to be. The Monster Hunter games tend to range a bit in terms of ambition, but according to new rumors, the latest isn’t just one of the most ambitious Monster Hunter titles, it’s one of the biggest games Capcom has ever made period.
Reliable Capcom insider Dusk Golem dropped a few more tidbits about Monster Hunter Wilds recently on their Discord channel, reiterating their earlier hints that the game will be a full-on open world adventure (previous games have been divided into a number of large zones). Per Dusk Golem, Capcom is “going all in” on Wilds, which is said to be “by far the biggest game [they’ve] ever attempted.”
To feed this ambition, the new MH has had a particularly long development cycle for a Capcom game. The team is said to have begun production sometime in early 2019, and thus the game will end up having a roughly six-year development cycle, as Dusk Golem says the game is currently slated to launch in Q1 of 2025. Apparently, Wilds’ director is being given a lot of freedom, and will be bringing both a lot of new ideas, and things that couldn’t quite be fit into Monster Hunter World, to the table.
As with all rumors, take this with a grain of salt, but if true, It all sounds pretty exciting. Monster Hunter has been building strong momentum as a worldwide brand (it’s always been a huge hit in Japan) and maybe Wilds will nudge it to the next level. Haven’t been keeping up with Monster Hunter Wilds? You can check out the game’s debut trailer here. Unfortunately, this is as detailed as Capcom’s official description of the game gets a the moment…
“The hunt is on in Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest installment in the Monster Hunter series, now in development. Experience the pinnacle of excellence in hunting action gameplay.”
Officially, Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5 sometime in 2025. Hopefully that early 2025 turns out to be the real deal.
